About

Our Mission: To decrease the burden of psychiatric illness, maximize normal development, and enhance the functioning of young people and their families.

Child & Adolescent Bipolar Spectrum Services (CABS) is an integrated clinical and research program devoted to evaluating and treating children and adolescents who have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, are experiencing symptoms that suggest bipolar disorder, or have severe mood problems. The program is part of UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital in the Oakland area of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

CABS offers both inpatient and outpatient services. Outpatient services are based at Bellefield Towers and inpatient services at Western Psychiatric Hospital and Clinic's main building at Thomas Detre Hall.

Research is vital to improving our ability to diagnose and treat bipolar disorder in children and adolescents. There are a number of research studies available through the CABS program. Participation in research is completely voluntary and is NOT required to receive services.

Each day we strive to fulfill our mission to better the lives of children and their families.
